The 'South Lakes Islamic Centre' is a recently registered charity whose stated aim is to establish an 'Islamic community centre' in South Cumbria, and plans have been submitted to Dalton Town Council for a 'Muslim prayer centre'.

A mosque is a mosque, no matter how much it may be described as a 'community centre' or a 'prayer space', and it is a stepping stone to rapid Islamic expansion in a formerly peaceful rural area.

We therefore demand that Dalton Town Council and Barrow Borough Council refuse planning permission for any such 'Islamic community centre' or 'Muslim prayer space' to the South Lakes Islamic Centre.

<p>FOR THE ATTENTION OF FIONA THOMSON, TOWN CLERK AT DALTON TOWN COUNCIL (COPIED TO BARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL)</p> <p>Dear Ms Thomson,</p> <p>It has been reported that the South Lakes Islamic Centre has submitted plans for an 'Islamic community centre' and 'prayer room' in Dalton.</p> <p>It has been further reported that local residents have raised their concerns about the land under consideration being a greenfield site; potential disturbances brought on by the Centre's opening hours; inadequate parking space allocated in the plans; and a number of protected wildlife species that inhabit the proposed site.</p> <p>However, the councillors of South Cumbria may not be aware of the social problems that such planning approval may bring - after all, when Muslims are less than one per cent of the community then such problems are rarely apparent - but a mosque is a mosque, no matter how much it may be described as a 'community centre' or a 'prayer space', and it is a stepping stone to rapid Islamic expansion in a formerly peaceful rural area.</p> <p>It should be recognised that the approval of an 'Islamic community centre' is much more than a religious consideration - the ideology of Islam is primarily a political ideology, and the expansion of this ideology throughout the UK and many Western countries has inevitably and perhaps predictably lead to numerous and well-documented social evils and community tensions.</p> <p>Such tensions are nothing to do with 'racism' or 'Islamophobia', but a general unwillingness of Islamic communities to assimilate and integrate with the host population, something that has been extensively documented in many countries over many decades.</p> <p>I therefore demand that Dalton Town Council and Barrow Borough Council refuse planning permission for any such 'Islamic community centre' or 'Muslim prayer space' to the South Lakes Islamic Centre.</p> <p>I look forward to hearing from you at the earliest opportunity.</p><p id="sign_off" class="mceNonEditable">
