In June this year, an Edinburgh man, Graham Evans was arrested for painting the words ‘Islam is questionable’ on his house.

Ten police officers turned up to arrest him on a charge of ‘breach of the peace’.

The words painted on his house had apparently ‘alarmed’ and ‘distressed’ the 'community'.

An Inspector at Dunfermline Police Station had authorised his immediate arrest.

He was held on remand in prison for five weeks until his trial, when a judge found him not guilty and ruled that his words were merely ‘free speech’.

It is a cornerstone of our democracy that everything should be ‘questionable’, but the toxic atmosphere of political correctness in Police Scotland now means that the mentioning of the word ‘Islam’ in any negative sense, in speech or in print, runs the risk of an instant loss of one’s liberty for a substantial period of time.

Political correctness has been tolerated and indeed actively encouraged at the highest levels of the Police, especially in Scotland.

This is an affront to our democracy, and we demand that the Chief Constable of Scotland resign forthwith.

The Chief Constable of Scotland, Iain Livingstone</p> <p>I write to you concerning the arrest and imprisonment of Edinburgh man Graham Evans on a charge of ‘breach of the peace’ for merely writing the words ‘Islam is questionable’ on his house.</p> <p>It was bad enough for him to be arrested, but for him to be remanded in custody for five weeks until his trial (at which point a judge found him not guilty) has an unacceptable chilling effect on the freedom of speech in the United Kingdom.</p> <p>It is a cornerstone of our democracy that <strong>everything</strong> should be ‘questionable’, and this especially includes the ideology of Islam, which many people are coming to realise is not the so-called ‘religion of peace’ that they have been told that it was.</p> <p>Under your command, the Police Service of Scotland has become mired in political correctness to the extent where otherwise law-abiding citizens may no longer mention the word ‘Islam’ in any negative sense, in speech or in print, without running the risk of an instant loss of one’s liberty for a substantial period of time.</p> <p>This cannot stand. I demand that you resign your position as Chief Constable forthwith, and make way for someone who will reverse the tide of political correctness in the Police Service and support the re-establishment of British law (rather than encourage <em>de facto</em> Sharia law, which of course allows for no criticism of Islam whatsoever.)</p> <p>I look forward to hearing from you at the earliest opportunity.</p><p id="sign_off" class="mceNonEditable">
