It has been reported that the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) has diverted £3.3 million pounds per year of charitable donations to support foreign aid projects in Tanzania and Bangladesh.

At the same time, however, it is cutting 135 jobs in Britain, citing losses of £6.3 million pounds, despite CEO Mark Dowie earning a £189,000 salary last year.

<p>FAO Mark Dowie, CEO, Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI)</p> <p>It has been reported that £3.3 million of charitable donations, supplied in good faith by the kind-hearted British public, has been diverted to overseas projects in Bangladesh and Tanzania. It is further reported that you intend to divert even more funds to overseas projects in the future.</p> <p>At the same time, your organisation has posted a loss of £6.3 million and is shedding 135 British jobs as a consequence. One is tempted to ask how you justify your reported salary of £189,000 under such circumstances.</p> <p>Through the actions of the RNLI executive, there is a very real risk of losing credibility with British charitable donors, together with a substantial loss of donations, and the consequent impact on saving British lives at sea (which is why the RNLI was founded in the first place.)</p> <p>We demand that you, as the CEO of the RNLI, prioritise the maintenance of the much-needed services that it provides around the coastline of Britain, prioritise the saving of British lives, and cease the politically correct virtue-signalling that will destroy the credibility of the RNLI with the British public.</p> <p>I look forward to hearing from you at the earliest opportunity.</p><p id="sign_off" class=mceNonEditable">
