An election candidate has been videoed being assaulted and manhandled by a Morrisons supermarket security officer in Denton, Manchester, for allegedly doing no more than handing out Brexit Party leaflets in the store and talking to customers.
Although the member of staff involved has been 'relieved of his duties' - indicating that the supermarket recognises the gravity of the situation - the subsequent attempts by Morrisons to justify the actions of its staff leaves a lot to be desired.
Morrisons has insisted that ''there was no political bias' and 'no electioneering is allowed in our stores' - and yet photographs and news articles have emerged of Labour and SNP candidates openly canvassing in Morrisons stores around the country.
This is adding insult to injury and is nothing short of hypocritical.
We demand that Morrisons not only publicly apologises to the Brexit Party election candidate, but that it also issues a clear public statement to the effect that election candidates of all parties are expressly welcome to canvass on Morrisons' premises with immediate effect.
